I am an enthusiastic and hard-working medical student, and have just completed my 2nd year at UCL. Next year I will be doing an intercalated BSc in Genetics before continuing with the clinical part of my degree. Outside of medicine I keep myself very busy playing hockey for the medical school 2nd team, cycling, volunteering, sailing and generally loving student life in London. Having completed A levels and GCSEs recently myself, I have a good understanding of what is required of the students and can relate to them, enabling a different approach than that offered by teachers. At GCSE I achieved: 8A* (inc. triple award iGCSE Science + Maths), 4A and Additional Maths. At A level I achieved: Chemistry A*, Biology A*, Maths A*, Further Maths A*, AS Greek A. I am currently a self-employed tutor and my previous employment includes teaching sailing as an RYA instructor and waitering for 6 months at a 4* hotel, where I was promoted to Restaurant Supervisor after just 3 months. I love music, and have worked at festivals and had a new music radio show on UCL student radio show, last year. Another great passion of mine is travelling, the highlight of my various travels was spending 6 months in Asia in my gap year.
For the past 2 years I have been a self-employed tutor teaching GCSE sciences and maths. I have built my tutee base through word of mouth and advertising in schools. This has mainly been in my university holidays in Suffolk and I have taught a total of 12 different tutees which have now completed their GCSEs. I have also worked as an RYA sailing instructor teaching dinghy sailing to children and adults on the North Norfolk coast. I learnt a huge amount about teaching techniques while teaching a technical sport not only in the classroom but also on the water, with the additional challenges posed by the wind, water and weather.
