My specialist subjects are English and French. I also have experience in preparing students for university interviews.
Im very enthusiastic about my subjects and love sharing my interest in them. I enjoy helping people to learn, and I have an approach which is very much focussed on the fulfilling the needs of each individual - Im always happy to flex my teaching style to fit a new situation. That said, I have a lot of experience in taking and preparing for exams, so I always bear exam technique in my mind as I teach, while also trying to make classes fun and relaxed environments where questions are always a good thing!

Current. Tutoring of GCSE French with student who is to take GCSE exams in June this year. We are focussing particularly on the French speaking examination, as well as on French grammar. Our classes consist of a combination of informal conversations in French, to increase confidence of spoken French, detailed preparation for what is involved in the oral exam, and grammar exercises.
Past: Tutoring of French with adult pupil (2011-2012) My student wanted particularly to focus on French speaking and listening, as she wanted to achieve a functional level of French for when she was in France. We supplemented this work with work on French culture, as a way of developing her reading and writing skills too.
Past: winter 2013. Work with Oxfizz, working as a practice interviewer, preparing students for interviews at Oxbridge. I conducted both subject interviews in English and French (an interview based around a poem/ text that I gave to students to prepare beforehand) and personal statement interviews, on all humanities subjects. After each interview, I gave detailed feedback and suggestions for further reading.
Hobbies and Interests
I love theatre and I recently directed my own translation of a Racine play, Berenice, which was on at a venue in East London (The Space). I am currently working in the casting department of a theatre, and as a script reader. I have a background in publishing - I have worked as a reader in literary agencies in both Paris and London. I spent my year abroad working for a major University Press in France, and have also undertaken placements in major UK publishing houses. I also love translating - whilst on my year abroad, I translated a new French play into English, for marketing to English theatres, and also regularly do translation of a different, more technical sort, for the French organisation, Les Ateliers.
I am also currently starting research for my PhD, which will start in full in October 2015. My PhD is on 19th Century French literature (specifically, on the genre of the confessional narrative).
