My specialist subject is Art (up to university level) and Modern Art History (up to undergraduate level depends on topics). I also teach Chinese (up to A-level) and Maths (up to Year 9).
I have taught Fine Art on university level as a visiting lecturer in Sunderland University before (Mar 2014), lecturing and giving one-to-one tutorials to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also have experience in interviewing postgraduate candidates for the Royal College of Art and facilitating group discussion among undergraduate students at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. I am currently the resident artist at a co-ed boarding school in Surrey where I organise art workshops for the 11 - 18, and oversee the Art Scholar Programme for a group of outstanding GCSE art students.
I was born in Hong Kong and I first came to the UK to study A-level eight years ago. The big difference of pedagogical approach between the two places made me very conscious of my own process of learning. I teach the same way as I learn - learning is not the reproduction of knowledge but something that has to be experienced mentally through and through. I am patient, empathetic and inquisitive. I enjoy discussion and I like to break down complicated concepts with clarity and humour. I like to help the students to relate their enquiries with their lives, let them know how the knowledge in questions function in the world around them, and therefore render studying itself a rewarding lived experience.
I graduated with a MA Painting degree from the Royal College of Art (2012-14). Before that I completed my BA Fine Art degree with First Class Honours from the Slade School of Fine Art UCL (2008-2012) where I was awarded the Mary Rischgitz Prize in Painting. During my undergraduate study I have also completed a course module at the UCL Art History Department (2009-10). I have an outstanding academic writing record with all essays and dissertations written since 2010 achieved distinction respectively at the RCA, Slade and UCL Art History Department.
