I believe that quality of teaching is primordial in cultivating a students thirst for understanding and knowledge. The skill of learning is often overlooked in an everyday classroom, one is simply expected to ingest the material but methods of doing so can go astray. Everyone varies in his or her suitability to classical methods of reading, writing and remembering -however rigid the subjects of mathematics and physics may appear, I believe it possible to tailor the interplay between class material and student. I very much enjoy this process of getting to grips with the method best adapted for the student and having graduated in 2014, the feeling of undergoing constant cycles of mounting exam pressure and the apprehension of exam technique are still very fresh in my memory.
MA - Mathematics - University of Cambridge
BA - Natural Sciences (Physics) - 1st Class - University of Cambridge
Cambridge Pre-U All D1 Maths, Further Maths, Physics
IGCSE Ten A*s (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, English, Spanish, French, History, Art)
A-level Maths tuition with Felix - I helped Felix with a range of modules, including Core, Mechanics and Statistics. He has achieved A grades or higher in all modules. He is now planning to apply to Oxbridge and I am working with him on interview technique and helping him to formulate his UCAS application.
AS-level Maths tuition with Leo - Leo has started his AS and is coping very well, so we are focussing on extra problems in order to fully uncover his strong potential in Maths. This is particularly important, as he would like to apply for Oxbridge. Going beyond the syllabus will put him in a good position for his application.
Higher-level IB Mathematics with Lisa - Lisa is in good shape to apply for top universities, so tuition is focused on giving her the extra proficiencies needed for her applications. Alongside Maths tuition, I have been advising her on her university choices, applications and her UCAS personal statement.
Physics and Mathematics tuition with Ca line for the French Baccalaureate - Helping Ca line with difficult concepts and exam technique allowed her to achieve the grades needed to secure a place at her university of choice, Bath. Here, she is enjoying her studies in Engineering.
Maths tuition with 14-year old Olympia - I have been working with Olympia to grasp the basics of arithmetic, which will give her a strong ground to start algebra. She now fully understands the material, which will allow her to excel in the French Baccalaureate.
Talks to A-Level students on Mathematical Physics - I have presented interesting ideas from the subject to A-level year groups, which have always been met with enthusiasm.
Hobbies and Interests
I have a passion for learning, reading and writing. Though still very much a beginner, I am an avid reader of Western Philosophy and Literature. Outside of the academic sphere, I am a keen sportsman (football, rugby, swimming ect) and I am currently training for a triathlon. Last year, I spent my summer in Malawi at Likuni Mission Hospital, providing aid wherever and however I could. This was an experience I have prolonged by setting up a funding scheme for schools across the countrys northern region, so far we have seen Mosanto primary school attract many more students as the learning facilities have improved.
