I have had the privilege of tutoring for just over five years, ever since I began my undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford. My specialist subjects are English (Literature and Language, from Key Stage 1 to A Level), Maths (Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3) and Spanish (from Key Stage 1 to University Level), including preparation for the 7+ and 11+ exams. I also teach History (Key Stage 1 to GCSE) and Geography (Key Stage 1 to GCSE) and study skills for all levels.
I am a good tutor because I am extremely passionate about the subjects I teach. I feel greatly rewarded when I spark inquisitiveness from my students and they begin to think creatively about the topic we are studying. I also greatly enjoy building a rapport with my students and creating a comfortable environment in which they can freely ask questions. There is nothing better than establishing a mutual learning relationship where both I and the student challenge one another by thinking imaginatively. I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and ages and have found that tailoring my teaching methods to their needs and experiences has produced extremely profitable results.

GCSE, AS Level, A Level Spanish (September 2010 - June 2013)
I worked with Charlotte throughout her GCSE, AS Level and A Level exams doing bi-weekly grammar, listening and oral practice to improve her Spanish. When I began with Charlotte she hesitated a great deal to speak in Spanish and struggled in terms of confidence and fluidity of expression. By focusing on all aspects of the exams, Charlotte saw how they were all inter-linked and by improving her grammar she was also improving her speaking and ability to understand native speakers. Charlotte achieved a high A-grade in her Spanish exam and was inspired to study Spanish at the University of Exeter.
(June 2014 - September 2014) - In preparation for The Gatehouse School
7 year old girl Danya, tutoring for 7+ exams. Danya is an enthusiastic, vibrant young girl and we immediately established a great relationship. Danya and I look at past papers, focusing on the more challenging questions towards the end of the papers. I also create exercises based on these harder questions for Danya to practice them until she finally understands them fully. We also use numicons to grasp the relationship between multiplication and division. Danya is showing much more confidence in her maths ability.
(September 2013 - Present) - In preparation for Bute House
Reilly is an energetic young girl who when focused can come up with brilliant, original ideas, however can quickly lose focus. Whilst tutoring Reilly I have tried to channel that energy directly into her work and make it as enjoyable for her as possible. Together we come up with fun and interesting ways for her to do her homework, an example recently was drawing and annotating a caricature of Henry VIII for her tudor history fact-file. Reilly has learnt to focus much better on the task at hand and her improved concentration has been noted by teachers at her school. I have high hopes that Reilly will continue to progress and really enjoy working with her on a weekly basis.
Maths and English 11+ entry exams and Spanish tuition - 11 year old
(September 2012 - February 2014)
11 year old girl Myca, tutoring in Maths and English for 11+ entry exams into London day girls schools. We focused on essay structure for creative writing which Myca had found particularly challenging. For this we read extracts from books that she enjoyed and looked at the techniques authors were using. Moreover, Myca found it difficult to structure answers in comprehensions and therefore we worked intensely on past papers using mark schemes to help her understand the precise points which she had to hit on. Furthermore, being in a bilingual english and spanish family, when we were not working on her 11+ exams, we worked through Spanish grammar exercises which significantly built her confidence in speaking. Myca was offered a place in St Pauls, Godolphin and Latymer and Notting Hill and Ealing High School.
Maths and English 11+ entry exams
(July 2013 - February 2014)
Specifically English comprehensions and interview practice with Addie in preparation for 11+ entry exams into London day girls schools. Addie is an extremely bright, creative girl, but lacked confidence in her own ability to perform under pressure. Therefore, we worked under time conditions on English comprehensions so she became accustomed to the exam time constraints. Furthermore, I would bring a newspaper article to every session and in the last 15 minutes we would read and discuss it together to prepare for the Current Affairs part of the interview. With regards to the interview we also worked on Addies confidence, so that she learnt not to be afraid of the interviewer but instead to let her intelligence and creativity shine through naturally. Addie showed a dramatic improvement in confidence and was accepted into Latymer Upper, St Pauls and Notting Hill and Ealing High School.
Key Stage 1-2 (English, Spanish, Maths, History and Geography) - 8 year old

Teaching English as a Foreign Language - 3, 6 year olds
Whilst at University I tutored with Jacari, a voluntary student-led organisation which offers weekly tuition to children in the Oxford area who do not speak English as a first language. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and enjoyed building up relationships with my three students, Ismael, Alessandra and Loren over the four years. The work I did with my tutees ranged from reading English childrens books to acting out plays and translating with them their favourite books in their own languages. I saw incredible improvements in their confidence, and their parents commented on their improved adjustment to English school life during the time.
Hobbies and Interests
As a Masters student of Political Science at University College London I am extremely interested in both British and International politics. Furthermore, I enjoy ballroom and tap dancing and playing the piano to relax.
