I am a qualified teacher with over 15 years experience, specialising in teaching both individual learners and small groups of students in all key subjects, with particular focus on English, Maths and Personal, Social, Health, Education (PSHE). During this time, I have worked with a number of students who need a bit of extra help in English and Maths in mainstream schools and have also worked in various Learning Support Units (LSUs) in mainstream schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and carried out private home/library and hospital tuition via Barnet Local Education Authority -working on an individual basis with students who are out of school for either medical or behaviour reasons, focusing on giving them additional support in English and Maths up to GCSE level.
I have worked with students with a diversity of identified behaviour and learning needs, accessing appropriate teaching styles to motivate and develop positive learning environments. Subjects taught have included: Maths English, ASDAN, basic Science, Food Technology, Speech Language development -using drama, music and English to aid progression.
Additionally I am an experienced Special Educational Needs teacher and have worked students with Cerebral Palsy, Downs, Lowe and Aspergers Syndromes, severe Autism, ADHD, Profound Hearing and Vision Impairment, selective mutism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Smith McGuiness Syndrome and profound physical, emotional or behavioural disorders/complex needs. I have also taught in various state junior and secondary schools (up to and including Year 12 13). The schools I have worked in have included working in challenging areas of London, attracting pupils from a wide catchment area. The schools have fallen into the middle sector of attainment levels up to and including outstanding grading. I have also taught in academically high-achieving independent secondary schools and have some nursery experience.
I have over the duration of my teaching career achieved very high end results with the students taught, showing progression in their learning and development and ensuring progression both in the classroom and on an individual basis. I have also helped integrate special needs children into mainstream learning.
I am also a qualified Art and Design teacher and Drama teacher, responsible for teaching these subjects in all areas of the curriculum.
I am DBS and Warner checked. I hold basic British Sign Language (BSL) skills.
Penn Special School: December 2011 - July 2013
Head-hunted to teach a class of four children with varying special needs, including: Autism, Smith McGuiness Syndrome, Dyspraxia and Delayed Learning.
Teaching all areas of the curriculum and PSD/ASDAN. Using small and focused activities to keep students on task. Particular behaviour management strategies were devised and put in place by muyself for Benedict, who has Smith McGuiness syndrome was aggressive. After three months of putting these strategies into place, Benedict was no longer presenting aggressive tendencies whilst in school.
Barnet Hospital and Home Tuition Team: May 2009 - July 2011
Lowe Syndrome: Working with the 15 year old student Oscar. Oscar has severe delayed learning. Focused timetable, incorporating English, Maths, ASDAN programme and Science. Small bite-sized activities aimed at Oscars level and attention span, to aid a sense of self-achievement and progress development. Also carried out a lot of life-skills studies and practice, with particular focus on money and time.

English, Maths and Business Studies GCSEs: Helped a number of SEN students in the school with their GCSE work in English, Maths and Business Studies.
Drama: Worked alongside the head of drama, aiding mainstream students in their coursework for their drama GCSEs. High results achieved.
JFS Secondary (Mixed) September 2000-2003
Dyspraxia: Daniel has dyspraxia. I worked with Daniel on improving his general understanding, with particular focus on Math and English, in preparation for being ready to enter Year 10 and his GSCE studies.
Aspergers Syndrome: I also worked with Darren, a student with Aspergers on English and Math, also focusing him on preparation for his GCSE subject choices.
Whitmore High (Mixed) October 2000 - May 2002
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN): Working with a number of delayed learners and identified behavioural and learning needs, in a unit within a mainstream school. Using appropriate teaching and learning styles to motivate and develop positive learning environments. Tutoring both small groups and individual learners, aiding their development back into mainstream activities.
Aspergers Syndrome: working with Andrew who is a high-functioning student with Aspergers Syndrome. Using proven strategies to integrate Andrew back into mainstream classes.
Kingsbury Green Primary School (Mixed) May 1999 - July 1999
Emotional Behaviour Disorder (EBD): Working with nine year old Omar, who was profoundly deaf and also EBD challenged. Working with him particularly on developing his Math and English skills, whilst using key strategies to improve his behaviour. Omar was very violent towards both myself and other students. Within the space of 3 months his behaviour had calmed via the use of affirmative strategies put in place by myself.

Profound Hard of Hearing: Working with small groups of students with profound hearing loss. Teaching them all areas of the curriculum at KS1 and KS2, using BSL (British Sign Language) to aid them.

I enjoy yoga, walking, visiting cultural places including museums, going to the cinema and horse-riding.
