My specialist subject is Spanish, focusing mainly on GCSE preparation. I also teach Maths and I teach Literacy and English, both as a foreign language and academically up to GCSE.
Instilling the same enthusiasm that I have for the subject in my pupils is at the core of my philosophy. Working together to break down the mental barriers that obstruct learning, as well as building self-confidence, paves the way not only to success but also an enjoyment of the subject. It is a great pleasure to share knowledge and ideas with young people and watch as their confidence and potential take flight.
Sep 2006 - 2010 Newcastle University First Class BA hons in English Literature and Spanish
1999 -2006 Notting Hill and Ealing High School, London A Levels: Spanish (A) English Literature (A) Maths (A)
AS Level: History (A)
GCSE: Maths (A*) English Literature (A*) English Language (A*) Spanish (A*) History (A*) Dual Science (A*) Geography (A*) Design Technology (A*)
I have carried out both one-to-one tuition and in-school focus groups with a diverse range of young people.
Key Stage 3 Maths and Spanish: Currently working with Lawrence, a year 9 pupil at UCS, consolidating the GCSE maths syllabus and providing supplementary support in KS3 Spanish.
GCSE Spanish homeschooling: currently working with year 11 pupil William towards his GCSE exam in the summer.
GCSE Spanish: Preparation for reading, writing and oral exams with Finn in year 11 at Eton.
GCSE Spanish: Express syllabus and exam preparation with year 11 Katherine who had missed much school due to illness. She required tuition covering the entire Spanish syllabus including practice of speaking. listening, reading and writing skills. A key part of my role was also to provide general revision techniques and re-instil her confidence in order to surpass her mock grade (D). After five months of bi-weekly sessions I was delighted to be informed she had increased her final grade in Spanish to an A as well as improved her marks in almost all other subjects.
Key Stage 3 Maths: Daily half term tuition sessions with Chidiogo in year 9. Revising the topics covered in the previous term and introducing the topics to be studied in the term to come.
GCSE Maths: Revision and consolidation of problematic topics in preparation for exams with Finn in year 11 at Eton.
GCSE Maths: As a teaching assistant at Excelsior Academy in Newcastle I worked with challenging year 10 and 11 pupils who were particularly struggling with GCSE mathematics. Through a mixture of one-to-one tuition and group QA sessions I helped prepare the students for their exams and encourage more engagement in school. To hear that all of my pupils went on to pass their maths GCSE and some even went on to embark on AS Levels was a proud moment indeed.
GCSE Maths: Working one on one with James from Twyford School in Ealing in the lead up to his exams saw a vast improvement in his confidence and ability. Together we overcame a huge mind block against trigonometry and improved his grade by 2 bands!
Primary English and Maths: While living in Argentina I volunteered at an after school club for primary aged children. We delivered fun, engaging classes in maths and english to supplement their school studies as well as provide a safe, encouraging environment for these children as an alternative to the street.
TEFL: I have been working with Maria from Spain for the last 3 months to build up her English vocabulary and grammar as well as improve her spoken English to reach a level suitable for finding employment in London. Her progress has been great so far and it is thrilling to see how quickly her confidence to speak has grown.
Hobbies and Interests
I love travelling, reading, music, and am also a keen sports player. Much of my time is taken up playing Ultimate Frisbee with my team based in Brixton but I also like to play tennis and ski whenever time or money allows!
Writing is also a passion of mine, so I am currently studying towards a diploma in Spanish translation while trying to keep my personal blog up to date with random anecdotes and ponderings.
