My specialist subject is English and I also tutor History and Creative Writing. I also specialise in preparing students for the 11+ and 13+ as well as general education at prep school level. My formal university training and experience as a theatre director has provided me with the necessary skills to inspire confidence and an enthusiasm for learning. Patience, personable communication, and an imaginative approach to the subject matter have been essential to my success rate.
I have now accumulated almost ten years teaching experience. I include my time directing as part of that, as the skill-set needed for these disciplines is identical. I have taught children as young as six, and a classroom of adults where the oldest was in her seventies. Consequently Im very flexible when it comes to the needs of the individual.
The services I offer include -
English language, all ages and abilities up to GCSE level
English literature, all ages and abilities up to degree level
English as a foreign language
History, all ages and abilities up to A-level
Creative Writing, with particular reference to writing for the stage
Exam technique for all of the above

IB English: Regular tuition for Lucy in English HL for International Baccalaureate, taking her from a predicted 3 to a 6. Throughout the course of eight months, we deepened her understanding of certain texts (Macbeth, Madame Bovary, Oedipus Rex, A Streetcar Named Desire) by drawing upon the significance of style, form, author, purpose and audience.
IB Extended Essay: I also assisted Lucy with the International Baccalaureate extended essay. She had decided upon s Frankenstein", and so we worked on textual analysis, feminist theory, structure, content, research skills and referencing. She eventually achieved a high B.
Entrance Audition: I worked with Cansu on a modern and classic piece (Shirley from Shirley Valentine and Helena from A Midsummer Nights Dream) for the entrance audition to various drama schools. She successfully auditioned for Rose Bruford.
