My specialist subject is English with special emphasis on the International Baccalaureate Language A1, Higher Standard and Language B (HL SL). I also tutor English A-Level, GCSE and IGCSE.
I have taught for over 15 years and tutored for over 4 years. I believe one of my great strengths is the ability to demystify literature and literary criticism and am as comfortable with Shakespeare and Romantic poetry as I am with Toni Morrison or Murakami. I have a special interest in world literature. During my time teaching IGCSE English, I wrote study notes for 2 key set texts. These were used by the English teaching departments in two international schools in Switzerland and New York where I taught and are still in use to date.
I have high expectations of my students, feel great enthusiasm for the subject and possess endless patience. I have worked with high achievers as well as those who struggle to do well and can adapt my techniques to accommodate both. I am able to explain concepts and ideas well and can connect and build on what the student already knows.
I am also committed to doing all I can to foster a passion for the subject as well as a strong desire to succeed in all my students.
I believe in the importance of helping students make links, solve problems, see patterns and work things out in a way that they, together with me, their tutor, can work hard and achieve their goals.
My attitude and all my activities are directed to developing self-confidence in my students and to give them the knowledge that they have the ability to achieve their aims.
